The South Tyne Area Print Competition was hosted by Hexham & District PS on Tuesday 18th November 2025 and Judged by Dave Phillips.
All six clubs of the South Tyne Area, Gateshead CC, Hexham & District PS, Ryton & District CC, South Shields PS, Whickham PC and Winlaton & District CC gathered at The Torch Centre at Hexham on Tuesday, 18th November 2025.
After much shuffling and shifting around to get a good vantage point, we were ready to begin the inter-club print competition, with many club members keeping an eye on the proceedings and updating the tally on their score sheets.
It certainly was a night to remember. Each club had submitted 10 prints with a mixture of mono and colour covering a wide range of subjects. Daves comments and suggestions for improvements were informative, and his positive critique showed the work that he had applied to the task at hand. There were some tense moments and then that silent pause whilst the scores were worked out – it was nail bitingly close.
1st South Shields PS 272 points
2nd Hexham & District PS 271 points
3rd Winlaton & District CC 269 points
4th Ryton & District CC 267 points
5th Whickham PC 262 points
6th Gateshead CC 250 points
The following prints scored 30 points:
Taking a break – Taj Mahal by David Richardson of Ryton & District CC.
First Light Loch Creran by John Petty from South Shields PS.
On the Rocks (Mary’s Shell) by Andy Laing of Hexham & District PS.
Leader of the Pack by Graham Turner, Hexham & District PS.
David Richardson of Ryton & District PS was awarded “The Roy Elwood FRPS, MPAGB, APAGB, EFIAP South Tyne Best Print Salver” for Taking a break – Taj Mahal.
South Shields PS were presented with ‘The Roy Elwood FRPS, MPAGB, APAGB, EFIAP South Tyne Print Salver’.

I would like to thank all clubs for their entries and Dave for judging.
And finally, our hosts Hexham & District PS did a fantastic job on the night and made sure the evening was a success. PS the baking in the Buffet was superb that lemon drizzle cake was to die for.
