South Tyne Interclub PDI Competition 2025

Hosted by Ryton & District  CC on Tuesday 18th February 2025.
Judged by: Dave Phillips.

All six clubs of the South Tyne Area, Gateshead CC, Hexham & District PS, Ryton & District CC, South Shields PS, Whickham PC and Winlaton & District CC gathered at the Cross House Community Centre on Tuesday, 18th  February 2025.

After much shuffling and shifting around to get a good vantage point, we were ready to begin the inter-club PDI competition, with many club members keeping an eye on the proceedings and updating the tally on their score sheets.

It certainly was a night to remember.  Each club had submitted 10 images with a mixture of mono and colour covering a wide range of subjects.  Dave’s comments and suggestions for improvements were informative, and his positive critique showed the work that he had applied to the task at hand. There were some tense moments and then that silent pause whilst the scores were worked out  – it was pretty close.

1st           South Shields PS                         269 points

2nd          Whickham PC                            266 Points

3rd          Ryton & District CC                    262 points

4th          Winlaton CC                                260 points

5th          Gateshead CC                            257 points

6th          Hexham & District PS               256 points

Three images were awarded 30 points: ‘Yellow Dung Fly’ by Paul Rogers of South Shields PS, ‘Windswept Shingle Lagoon’ by Fiona Haughton of Ryton & District CC and ‘Blue Landings’ by Lynda Golightly of Whickham PC.

The best PDI was awarded to Paul Rogers of South Shields PS for ‘Yellow Dung Fly’.

There was some new silverware to be presented in the form of ‘The John Smith EFIAP, PPSA, APAGB, Hon NCPF South Tyne PDI Salver’ and ‘The John Smith EFIAP, PPSA, APAGB, Hon NCPF South Tyne Best PDI Salver’.

John Smith has been an active member of Gateshead CC for over 50 years, a past President of the NCPF, Editor of the Northern Focus, Treasurer and chair of the Club Support and Development Group.

I would like to thank all clubs for their entries, Dave for judging and John for the presentation and allowing us the honour to bear his name on our PDI trophies.

And finally, our hosts Ryton & District CC who did a fantastic job on the night and made sure the evening was a success. The buffet was excellent and many of those attending wet their whistles in the Community Pub next door.
