Obituary Tom Cook

We announce with great sadness the death of Thomas Cook BA(Hons) who passed away peacefully in the Queen Elizabeth Hospital, Gateshead on 10th January 2025 aged 96.

Tom was Whickham Photographic Club’s longest standing active member, holding a number of positions within the club’s 51+ years since inauguration.

In 2018 he was awarded Honorary Vice-President for life for services to the club. Known for his humour and terrific story telling, along with excellent photography, he would happily recount his photographic journey with memories of post war industrial work in Anzio (where the brother of the young lady of the house stood by with shotgun while Tom took her picture), images of Diana Doors and a meeting with Liz Taylor. Always happy to mentor and support others, his photography including Nature, Landscape and People was always to the highest standard, often with a unique twist with a nod to his engineering background.

Tom’s funeral shall be held at Mountsett Crematorium on Monday 27th of January at 1.15pm, followed by refreshments at Whickham Glebe Sports Club from 2pm onwards. Friends are very welcome at either or both.

A wonderful gentleman he will be sadly missed by all who knew him.
