Hello from the new President of the NCPF

Let me introduce myself as your new NCPF President.

My name is Gerald Chamberlin DPAGB, EFIAP and I live in Carlisle. I’ve been involved in club photography for many years, even back in the days of film and darkrooms.

I joined Morton Photographic Society in the 80’s (now called Dalston PS after we moved location following the pandemic). For 9 years I was the Competition Secretary, then took on the roll of Chairman for 3 years and I’m now back as External Competition Secretary.

I started judging after attending a NCPF judges training day many years ago and am now on the NCPF A list. The one thing I have found in becoming a judge is that you get to see some amazing images at both club and international level.

I was then asked to become a member of the NCPF Executive as the Western Area Representative, which is a roll I still hold. From there I became the NCPF PAGB Merit Awards Officer looking after NCPF members application’s for the APM (awards for photographic merit).

In 2022 I was asked to take on the roll of Vice President to support Alan Wilson, the then President, and have now over from him at the AGM in March 2024 as your President.

The next two years are going to be a busy time for me as the APM Awards Officer and NCPF President, as the Federation is to hold the PAGB APM adjudication weekend in April 2026.  The location for the adjudication has now been booked and will be held at Caldew School, Dalston just outside Carlisle. To start the ball rolling a PAGB APM workshop is being held on the 12th May 2024 (see the NCPF website for more details).

As you will be aware, many of the NCPF executive committee hold multiple tasks which all eat into their time. When we hold an event these people have to set up the location before they can start to do their tasks. It would be much appreciated if club members were to volunteer to come along and help in setting up for events and it’s also a great way to meet and get to know other club members.

I would like to visit as many NCPF clubs and members as possible over the next 2 years in my role as your President. If you wish for me to come along to your club just to say hello that’s great, or you may like me to give a talk (I have several to choose from) or maybe to judge for you.
