Let Battle Commence – the Annual Wear Area Battle!

The Wear Area Battle was held on the evening of the 21st November 2022. The region’s eight clubs each submitted six PDI images.

The evening was held again this year at Consett and District Photographic Society who were great hosts and provided an excellent evening. Their facilities at Citizen’s House in Consett are ideal for such events and the club provided an excellent supper as well.

The judge for the evening was Arjun Nambiar LRPS from Gosforth. Arjun provided superb commentary with comprehensive and insightful feedback on the images presented.

It was a very close-run competition with Consett winning by 1 point.   This is the only time Consett have won outright (they shared the honours with Washington once before) but as the Trophy dates from 1986 their success was long overdue! This year’s president, Debra Taylor, commented that “Consett is a sociable, inclusive group and we have some innovative photographers who are prepared to test out their images with other club members in a friendly and supportive environment. Our excellent weekly programme has inspired members to experiment, share and flourish”.

The highest scoring image of the evening was award to Allan Symons of Washington for ‘Sea Eagle with Shag Mobbed By Gulls’:

Joint 2^nd – Stanhope Photographic Society and Castleside & District Photography Club – 148 points

4^th Washington Camera Club – 147 points
